Three Airlines Fined for Violating Schiphol Noise Rules
The Dutch Human Environment and Transport Inspectorate (ILT) has imposed conditional fines on DHL, El Al and Turkish Airlines for operating aircraft types not permitted during nighttime hours at Amsterdam Schiphol Airport.
According to the ILT, DHL, El Al and Turkish Airlines operated certain aircraft types that are restricted from nighttime operations between 23:00 and 07:00 during the period from November 1, 2025 to June 1, 2026. If similar violations are repeated, the airlines could face fines of €17,000 per violation, up to a maximum of €170,000.
Under regulations introduced on November 1, 2025 to reduce noise around Schiphol, certain variants of the Boeing 737-800, 737-900 and 747-400, as well as the Airbus A320, A321 and A330-200, are restricted from operating at night.
Transavia and KLM also operate some aircraft from these families between 23:00 and 07:00. However, the ILT stated that the specific variants used by the two airlines comply with the applicable noise limits and therefore no enforcement action was taken against them.
